Elevating Education In Austin To The 21st Century

Located in Southeast Austin, the Anita Uphaus Early Childhood Center consists of 24 classrooms which house 450 Pre-K and Kindergarten students. Oriented around a courtyard that includes two playscapes, a tricycle track, and dedicated outdoor learning spaces, each of the three classroom wings is focused on an interior commons area featuring natural light and vibrant colors to facilitate group learning and social interaction.

The Details

The design appeals to elementary age children by incorporating playful elements such as columns inspired by trees and the figures of children, alphabet signage, and colored glazing at shared learning spaces including the library, music and art rooms. Sited across the street from Ponciana Park, this new school is a symbol of community investment in the well-being of our children.

This school is also classified as a Demonstration School, or learning school, where other educators can observe the learning principles instituted here and hopefully take them back with them and promote those practices elsewhere to further the pre-education of small children everywhere.
