The national program recognizes AGC members for strong construction safety performance, including contractors that achieve a zero-incidence rate or maintain an incidence rate at least 25% below the average for their occupational division.
For our Houston team, the recognition reflects something bigger than a safety statistic. It represents the daily commitment of our builders, safety professionals and trade partners to create jobsites where people look out for one another and everyone goes home safely.
Excellent Safety Records Are Built Every Day
A strong construction safety culture is created through thousands of decisions made before and during the work.
At Bartlett Cocke, that means identifying hazards before work begins, developing site-specific safety plans, conducting job hazard analyses and toolbox talks, providing training and maintaining open communication as conditions change. Most importantly, every employee is empowered to stop work when they recognize a safety concern.
Those practices are especially important in a growing and active Houston construction market, where project teams must coordinate people, equipment, trades and changing jobsite conditions every day.
A Reminder of What Is at Stake
The importance of those everyday decisions was reinforced at the Mid-Year Safety Meeting, where keynote speaker Brad Livingston shared his experience with a preventable workplace incident that resulted in life-changing injuries.
His message addressed the role that attitude, shortcuts, pride and complacency can play in workplace incidents. It was a powerful reminder that experience does not eliminate risk and that one decision on a jobsite can have consequences that last a lifetime.
That perspective is also why safety recognition matters. A certificate can acknowledge excellent performance, but the real achievement is the work behind it: people planning carefully, speaking up and taking responsibility for themselves and those around them.
We are proud of our Houston Region and the builders, safety professionals and trade partners who contributed to this excellent safety record.
The recognition is worth celebrating. The standard remains the same across every Bartlett Cocke project in Houston and throughout Texas: work safely, look out for one another and make sure everyone goes home at the end of the day.
